In any situation where I am bored, and time moves like molasses, I like to ask myself a ridiculous question. The question always has five answers. Basically, it’s the desert island style questions but absurd. In this series, “Fast Five”, I will answer some jam band related ones. Maybe even some reader submitted questions.
This week's question... What Phish songs would Weird Al parody?
Note: I felt like using Blaze On/Glaze On was the easy way out. Weird Al would expect better.
5 - The Gamehendge Polka
Every Weird Al album has a polka melody on it. The best and only option here is the entire Gamehendge story in polka. I can’t quite hear it, but I know it would be wonderful.
4 - Electronica - Sing Monica
Al’s ability to mimic the musical trends of the moment is a main reason he is still popular some 40 years later. I think he could use this song to sing about EDM music. I know this is a stretch, but my brain couldn’t come up with a fourth parody. So we get a chorus of Electronica sung on autotune.
3 - Tavern - Cavern
I could see this becoming a song about an overzealous craft beer place. “The IPA lector, defining the bro sector, a hazy brew collector, a big beer defector” “Whatever you saw, stay away from white claw.”
2 - Scene from Gotham - Theme from the Bottom
I mean, it would be like that Jedi or Spiderman song, only with Batman and Phish. Maybe Al puts in a little parody of Walls of the Cave too. Kinda like how he did on the Chili Peppers/Flintstones song in the 90s.
1 - Townhouse - Farmhouse
“Welcome, this is a townhouse / We have custard pies, alas, and this time of year, we're glad. We are so very hungry there is little we can do but eat them." That’s a song I want to hear.
